The Mantua Civic Association grew out of the feedback from the community to be engaged in making decisions about the changes going on out community. MCA has worked to keep the residents of the Mantua community informed and engaged in decision-making regarding development projects in the community.
MCA was approved as an RCO (Registered Community Organization) in 2014. As an RCO we have the responsibility to convene a Public Meeting with the owner of development projects and review zoning appeal requests. The Mantua Civic Association has had two of its members graduate from the Citizens Planning Institute.
As on the RCO’s in Mantua, MCA has acted as the Coordinating RCO. We have taken responsibility for scheduling and convening the public meeting in coordination with all other RCO’s whose boundaries overlap the project location.
The purpose of the Mantua Civic Association is to advocate for and represent the issues and concerns of residents, to improve the quality of life for all, and presence the identity and history of Mantua for the next generation.
- We are organized to encourage neighborhood participation in an advisory and decision-making role regarding planning, zoning and development.
- We encourage vigilance in zoning and development matters so that the rights and interests of the majority of its residents are protected.
- We strive to ensure that the history of Mantua is preserved and retains its identity as a community for families.
The Boundaries of the Mantua neighborhood coincide with that of the Philadelphia Planning Commission. The geographic area includes Spring Garden Street on the South, the railroad tracks on the East and North, and 40th street on the West (31st and Spring Garden to 40th Street to Parrish, Mantua Avenue and 31 Street).
